No último dia 16, Bukowski faria anos.

sweet music

it beats love because there aren't any
wounds: in the morning
she turns on the radio, Brahms or Ives
or Stravinksy or Mozart. she boils the
eggs counting the seconds out loud: 56,
57, 58... she peels the eggs, brings
them to me in bed. after breakfast it's
the same chair and litsten to the class-
ical music. she's on her first glass of
scotch and her third cigarette. I tell
her I must go to the racetrack. she's
been here about 2 nights and 2 days. "when
will I see you again?" I ask. she
suggests that might be up to me. I
nod and Mozart plays.

a música suave

a mesma cadeira e ouvir a música

A Mão Enorme

Dentro da noite, da tempestade,
a nau misteriosa lá vai.
O tempo passa, a maré cresce,
o vento uiva.
A nau misteriosa lá vai.
Acima dela
que mão é essa maior que o mar?
Mão de piloto?
Mão de quem é?
A nau mergulha,
o mar é escuro,
o tempo passa.
Acima da nau,
a mão enorme
sangrando está.
A nau lá vai.
O mar transborda,
as terras somem,
caem estrelas.
A nau lá vai.
Acima dela
a mão eterna
lá está.

The enormous hand

Within the night, within storm,
the misterious ship goes on.
Time passes, tide rises,
wind is howling.
The misterious ship goes on.
Above it
what is this hand bigger than sea?
Pilot's hand?
Whose is the hand?
The ship dives,
the sea is dark,
the time passes.
Above the ship,
the enormous hand
bleeding it is.
The ship goes on.
The sea overflows,
earth disappears,
stars fall down.
The ship goes on.
Above it
the eternal hand
still there is.

The Enormous Hand

Inside the nighttime of the storm,
the mystery caravel goes there.
Time moves, and waters crest,
the wind weeps ugly loud.
The mystery caravel goes there.
Above this ship
what hand is that more huge
even than the sea?
Hand of the pilot?
Whose hand?
The caravel plunges,
the sea stands dark,
time moves.
Above this ship
the large hand
is bleeding.
The caravel goes there.
The sea spills,
land vanishes,
stars fall.
The caravel continues and
above this ship
the eternal hand
is there.
